Sovereign citizen shoot down Santa, mistake sleigh for government drone

Only about half the worlds children received their Christmas presents this year. Millions of children who earned a spot on the “nice list” were disappointed this morning to find nothing left for them, and glasses of milk untouched. The reason for this disappointment, Wayne Balldinger, a sovereign citizen who assumed the government was coming after him.

Balldinger who lives just outside Clear Lake, Iowa, has been a constant thorn in the side of local police for a few months now. But before last night he was never actually violent.

Preliminary investigatory reports obtained by CallTheCops out line the events leading up to the murder of Santa Clause.

At about 9:37pm on Christmas Eve, Balldinger was stopped for speeding and expired registration. He got into a verbal altercation with the officer about the legality of “vehicle registration taxes” and restrictions on his “freedom of movement by creating arbitrary speed restrictions to slow free movement”. The officer let Balldinger go with a warning due to feeling in the Christmas mood.

Then about 10pm, also on Christmas Eve, Balldinger then calls the non-emergency police phone number. He complains about the traffic stop and demands to talk to the police chief immediately.

By 11:30pm Mayor James Longworth calls the police department to report harassing phone calls from Balldinger.

Just before midnight the shift supervisor stops at Balldinger’s house with a department complaint packet and drops it on the porch. Then has dispatch call Balldinger to tell him the packet is sitting outside and he should fill it out if he wants to file an official complaint.

At 12:15am on Christmas morning Balldinger calls 911. He tells the dispatcher he knows the PD has a drone watching him. He warns the dispatcher he has a .50 caliber rifle and will take out the drone.

About 12:20am Balldinger again calls 911. He tells the dispatcher he warned her about the drone and now he has taken care of it. When asked he said he fired three shots at the drone and watched it go down.

At the same time NORAD who was tracking Santa called into the Clear Lake dispatch center. Their RADAR tracker lost all contact with Santa just off I-35 north of Clear Lake.

The first officers found the wreckage just off Gull Ave just before 12:45am. Fire department and EMS were on scene within minutes of the officers.

A team of Elves from the North Pole arrived close to 2am. The Elves identified Santa (real name Scott Calvin originally from Chicago) and said they would notify his next of kin. They also indicated to the first responders that Santa has a son, Charlie, who has been training to take over for his dad.

Also at 2am the SWAT team surrounded Balldinger’s house. After a very short exchange of gun fire, Balldinger surrendered. No officers were injured. Balldinger took rounds to the left hand and left leg, before he gave up.

As of press time the North Pole has not stated when Charlie will be taking over the Santa role. Sources inside told us a few days of grieving needs to take place first. Also toys lost need to be re-produced. But our source was confident deliveries would be complete before the New Year.
