Convinced that NIST scientific research has merit the chief has ordered that adoption of the new recommended fire attack guidelines. Specifically instituting the use of door control, placing less emphasis on ventilation, and more importance being placed on engine operations.
Many veteran firefighters protested. The truck crews were the most vocal. A vocal minority of department members started talking grievance. The common theme to their complaints was “going against our traditions”.
The chief tells CallTheCops this is the fourth time in two years people have said they would grieve something due to issued stemming back to tradition.
So the chief released the following memo
Effective immediately
Any more discussion that we as a department can not improve because the change will break a tradition will be met with us going full fire service traditional. If you need a fire department history lesson here are our traditions…
1st… No engines and no trucks. We will sell them to buy horses and wagons.
2nd… With no engines that means we will utilize the bucket brigade
3rd… No SCBAs, males will grow long beards, if a male wants to go inside a smoked filled house they will dip their beard in water and fold the beard into their mouth to act as a simple smoke filter
4th… You will not be paid, the fire service started with everyone as volunteers.
You want to bitch about tradition, keep in mind that this department dates back to the 1660s. The fire service dates back to ancient times. Please take some time to learn the history before you cite history as a reason to file a grievance.
No department members were willing to talk to CallTheCops about this memo.
