The Fox Television network has announced today the development of a new cooking related reality TV show, Firehouse MasterChef. The show will be produced and hosted by Gordon Ramsay. No word if Ramsay will be joined by Joe Bastianich or chef Graham Elliot, his co-hosts on MasterChef.
MasterChef is a reality show that pits home cooks against each other for the title of MasterChef. In addition to the title, the winner gets a cash prize and a book deal.
According to the press release Firehouse MasterChef will replace the cash prize with a remodeling of the winners firehouse kitchen to professional kitchen worthy of a “MasterChef”. The winner will also still receive a book deal.
The format of the show was not discussed but it is assumed it will be the same as other MasterChef contests. Applicants from both paid and volunteer Fire Departments are welcome to apply.
Typically applicants for MasterChef are chosen for the show by cooking a dish for the judges. If two of the three judges approves, the applicant becomes a contestant. Then through the use of various cooling challenges the contestants are eliminated one by one.
Chef Gordon Ramsay had this to say about the show. “I have traveled all over the US doing my Kitchen Nightmares show. In every city I have been at I have found the local Fire Departments willing and able to help me when I need them as part of the show. I also have found that US fire brigade members to be some of the most bloddy amazing cooks.”
No word as to when they will begin to take applications. We will post here as soon as that information becomes public.
