Help Pay the Effingwoods Fire department!

The Effingwoods volunteer fire department needs your help. Firefighter Ben Hicks explains that the department is a tad underpaid, as in not paid at all! The department has been trying to make a transition from 100% volunteer to a pay-per-call service.

Firefighter Hicks & Firefighter Smitty

Many of the departments in nearby cities are paid-on-call. But the town counsel thinks their money will be better spent on training and equipping its 1 man police department. So Hicks and his friend Smitty came up the idea to create a documentary film/recruitment video. They sat down with CallTheCops (CtC) to explain how this video will help change the minds of the city counsel and draw in more members.

CtC: You guys started a Kickstarter campaign to make a documentary film, why?

Firefighter Hicks: We went to Kickstarter to fund a documentary film because our own town has no clue what we do, so we need to show them. If we can raise $200,000 we can hire a film crew and get this thing made.

Firefighter Smitty: It is very sad we have this one town selectman who is pushing hard to take care of the police department and completely neglecting Fire and Rescue needs. I know I should not be saying this, but his nephew is the police chief, so we all know why he thinks the PD needs money. But anyhow this jerk-off, and I only say that because he is a jerk-off, can’t even tell you how many calls we took last year. How many patients we extricated from motor vehicle crashes. He calls us Wannabes but he does not even know what we do.

CtC: But from what this town Selectman member told us (off the record) the city has seen a marked increase in crime. And that the training and equipment the Police Chief is getting is much needed.

FF Smitty: Much needed? Last week he went to Atlantic City for Internal affairs training.

Ctc: And you don’t think that’s important?

FF Hicks: He’s the only cop! What is he keeping an eye on himself?

Ctc: This Selectman also mentioned an uptick in crime.

FF Smitty: An uptick? Oh wait I forgot, he does get called to the high school for kids smoking. What does he need, CSI Effingwoods to come test the cigarette butts for DNA, link it to the future dropout that was smoking in the boys room?

CtC: So what you are saying is that the police chief is a joke?

FF Hicks: Well, I don’t know if I’d go that far-

FF Smitty: I will, yes he is a joke. And I caught him masturbating.

FF Hicks: Don’t print that. Look, it is ironic that the Chief is the nephew of a town selectman.

CtC: OK… can we get back to talking about this movie idea? What is this and why Kickstarter?

FF Hicks: We want to show off what the Effingwoods fire department is all about. How we are a family to our members and all the good we do. So we need to have a film crew follow us to calls, at training and even at home to show what it is we all do. I think if we do this it will show people we are not a bunch of loser wannabe firefighters.

FF Smitty: Kickstarter is how all kinds of regular working stiffs like us get raise some cash to do something awesome. Anyone who pledges $50 or more we will make you a member of the Effingwoods Fire Department, send you a free t-shirt even.

CtC: And you are looking to raise about $200,000… right?

FF Smitty: Well we need a lot more, but if we can get $200,000 on Kickstarter then some other people with money will be willing to also pitch in to cover the rest.

CtC: OK… well that is about all the time we have. Any final thoughts

FF Smitty: Look it’s time the community stops taking complete advantage of its heroes, go over to our Kickstarter page and donate. Every little bit helps!
