NEW TRANS FAT BAN GETS FDNY FINED.

It was years ago that Mayor Bloomberg pushed for the Trans fat ban and outlawed them in NYC. Everyone was happy, people were losing weight thousands lined up in times square to cheer on this fat busting mayor. He was a hometown hero, just one problem! No one thought of the future! It was just 6 months ago that the FDNY-EMS command took delivery of several high end, multi million dollars trucks. These large vehicles some as long as 3 city Ambulances lined up and weighing several tons each are for Special Operations and mass disaster style attacks to aid the response.

Last week a City health inspector stopped by a location in queens that housed 2 such units, the MERV And The METU. Beautiful huge trucks that light up like Christmas tress when put in emergency mode. The city paid a little extra to have the trucks use a clean air technology , a Bio-Diesel and that’s when the problems started. The City’s health inspector placed the Trucks out of service on the spot not only in queens and but in every part of the city. All 5 boro’s in all more than 10 Special operations trucks Placed OOS ( Out Of Service) he didn’t stop there he also issued the city and the FDNY a 1 million dollar fine for each of these vehicle’s.

He discovered something that everyone failed to notice, Bio-Diesel Contains Trans fat the key fuel used for these Rescue Vehicles. When calls were made to the Mayors office by FDNY to get Permission to use the trucks the Mayor himself made it clear that studies have shown that not only eating Trans fat but inhaling it as well can cause Obesity and he would not bend the rules even for the FDNY.

So for now the trucks sit empty and unused and there is no plan to fix the problem, so keep your eye on E-bay if your in the market for a cheap MERV or METU!
